To mark the 125th anniversary of the birth of Otto Dix and the 500th anniversary of the Isenheim Altarpiece, which provided the artist with an inexhaustible source of inspiration, the Musée Unterlinden is presenting its first major exhibition of modern art since its reopening.

From 8 October 2016, the Musée Unterlinden will pay tribute to Otto Dix (Gera-Untermhaus,1891 – Singen,1969) with a remarkable exhibition bringing together over one hundred works, including exceptional loans from major public collections (the Musée national d’art moderne in Paris, MoMa in New York, the Vatican Museums and the Kunstmuseums of Stuttgart, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Chemnitz, Dresden…), as well as private collections. The exhibition, which has received the French “national interest” label, will show how the famous German painter was profoundly inspired throughout his career by the Musée Unterlinden’s masterwork: the Isenheim Altarpiece (1512 – 1516).

Curator of the exhibition
Frédérique Goerig-Hergott, senior curator

This exhibition has received the “Exhibition of National Interest” label from the French Ministry of Culture and Communication and enjoys the patronage of the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut.
