What is an independent visit?
The Musée Unterlinden offers you the opportunity to visit the museum with your students entirely independently. This means that you will be responsible for leading the visit, using the compulsory audio equipment that you collect at the entrance.
You can also make use of our audioguides (€2 per person).
Students from schools within the Strasbourg regional education authority are entitled to free entry to the museum (excluding audioguides).
Making a booking
For all independent group visits, you must make a booking using the online form.
Sending a booking request does not mean the booking has been made! You will be sent a confirmation by the Reservations service.
Preparing and researching your visit
The Visitor Outreach team and the whole of the curatorial team are there to support you in your project. Teachers, group leaders or educators who would like to come to the museum in order to prepare for their visit – independently or with a member of the interpretation team – can send a request to the email address educatif@musee-unterlinden.com, and will be sent a pass.
Following the security instructions and keeping to the rules
In the museum galleries, on both independent and guided visits, you must:
- Divide the students into groups with an adult in charge and ensure the group remains together;
- Attach labels showing the children’s first names for nursery school classes;
- Ensure the security instructions are understood;
- Only used lead pencils. Pencil sharpeners and rubbers are not allowed in the museum galleries.
The Plan Vigipirate
Under the French Plan Vigipirate security alert system, which stands at HEIGHTENED SECURITY – RISK OF AN ATTACK, the Musée Unterlinden is applying the preventative measures implemented by the government.
The following link will open a PDF containing our visitor regulations and security instructions.
In addition, please ask your group members to keep their baggage to a strict minimum.
As a reminder, visitors may access the exhibition galleries after small bags have been checked. Large capacity bags and suitcases are not permitted.
The museum’s left luggage facility is closed to the public, although unsupervised containers may be made available to school students.
