Naoya Otsuka (Harpsichord)

Born in Tokyo. After studying harpsichord at Tokyo University of the Arts under the leading of Yoshio Watanabe and Masaaki Suzuki, Naoya Otsuka went to Amsterdam to study harpsichord and organ, where he received the soloist-diploma of harpsichord (under the leading of Bob van Asperen), the bachelor’s diploma of organ (under the leading of Jacques van Oortmerssen) at Conservatorium van Amsterdam. In 2001, he finished a doctorate in harpsichord performance at Tokyo University of the Arts.

Besides being active as a harpsichord, organ and clavichord soloist, Otsuka has engaged as a continuo player with the ensembles such as Bach Collegium Japan, Ensemble Cordier and more.

He also has been quite active to organizing workshops for children and music lovers to touch the harpsichord and organ for the first time in many places in Japan. Including his solo album “L. Couperin: Piece de clavecin” (ALM RECORDS), he has done number of recordings. As a Professor at Tokyo University of the Arts, as well as a faculty at Kunitachi College of Music, he teaches harpsichord, organ and early music ensemble.

He is one of the radio personalities of “Kogaku no Tanoshimi” (Joy of Early Music) on the national public radio station NHK.
