// ACQUISITIONS AND GIFTS 20042006 -Gift of a Punch holder made by the Doll family (pewter makers in Colmar) by Yves Hoffmann. 2005 : - Purchase of a miniature by Jean-Jacques Karpff (17701829) representing a Portrait of a Young Lady. - Purchase of an 18th-century polychrome wooden bust representing a Jesuit Saint originally part of the decoration of Saint Peter’s Chapel in the former Jesuit convent in Colmar.. - purchase of a series of twelve engravings, Christ and Eleven Apostles, executed by Master IE, who was active during the latter part of the 15th century, which are clearly influenced by the work of Martin Schongauer. Owing to their rarity and excellent quality, they constitute an exceptional acquisition by the Unterlinden Museum, a reflection of the institution’s interest in presenting Schongauer’s impact on his contemporaries. - Purchase of a Römer, a traditional Rhine valley drinking glass, dating from the 17th century. - Purchase of two paintings under glass, dating from the second half of the 18th century, one representing a Crucifixion with Mary Magdalene, the other the Sacrifice of Abraham. The first is typical of Strasbourg-based artists and the second was certainly produced by an Augsburg workshop. - Gift by Yves Siffer of a painting under glass depicting a Crucifixion, signed and dated by Franz-Nicolas Haldenwanger, 1721. - Gift by Olivier Scherberich of a drawing by David Ortlieb (17951875), a preparatory study for a painting in the museum’s collections, Stangenmeyer, near Ribeauvillé. - Gift by Mr Hugel of a Wooden chest having belonged to Ignace Chauffour and of a parlour game, Rochspiel, both dating from the 19th century. - Gift by Jacques Polain, a Brussels-based collector, of a painted panel, originally part of a mid-15th-century altarpiece, depicting a Resurrection of Christ from southern Germany and a sculpted Madonna and Child dating from the 14th century and originally from Cologne. - Gift by Jérôme Kaltenbach of an Adoration of the Magi, a sculpted relief from southern Germany dating from the early 16th century. 2006 : - Gift by Denise Schleret of an Alsatian coiffe. - Gift by Jacques Polain of an Ecce Homo (Christ Presented to the People), a work of the Middle Rhine dating from the late 15th century. - Purchase of seven engravings from the series of the Passion by Martin Schongauer, Arrest of Christ, Christ Before Pilate, Ecce Homo, Carrying of the Cross, Crucifixion, Christ Disrobed and Resurrection, for which the museum had launched a special fund-raising programme. - Purchase of an Album of specimens from the Manufacture Haussmann in Logelbach containing 1,369 drawings, most of which were executed between 1790 and 1810. |
